In the wine industry, the phrase “The future is now” couldn’t be truer. While you are enjoying a glass of our current vintage, we are already looking down the road a few years. Now that our first wines are being released, we thought it would be a good time to let you know what you can look forward to from Bayernmoor.
Let’s start with what we currently have aging in barrels. As the summer comes to a close, we will be bottling our 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for 20 months and sourced completely from Destiny Ridge Vineyard located on the sweeping bluffs of Horse Heaven Hills. The brightest gem in our portfolio will be our 2017 Pinot Noir which will be available next spring. Made entirely of Pinot Noir from our estate vineyard, this wine is truly a labor of love. During the last barrel tasting, a few lots stood out above the rest, so keep your eyes open for a very limited Reserve Pinot Noir as well. Lastly, we have our 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon sourced solely from one of the old blocks of acclaimed Klipsun vineyard. This wine has almost one more year to age and will be released in Fall of 2019.
As we turn our focus to the upcoming 2018 harvest, most of our attention is, of course, centered on our estate Pinot Noir vineyard. We are out there daily keeping the vines manicured and the conditions prime for a stellar harvest. All our fruit on the other side of the mountains is in the more than capable hands of some of the state’s best vineyard managers. We will once again be sourcing Grenache and Mourvedre for our Provence style rosé. For our Chardonnay, we are proud to announce that we will be sourcing completely from historic Otis Vineyard. This vineyard has produced some of the best wines the state has seen and has experienced a resurgence lately with new wineries rediscovering this amazing site. Lastly, we will continue to source 100% of our Cabernet Sauvignon from Klipsun Vineyard. Widely considered one of Washington’s Grand Cru vineyards, Klipsun has distinguished itself internationally and has been named one of the best vineyards in the world.
Using the best fruit possible is only part of the equation. The other side of that equation is the person transforming that fruit into world class wine and, for that, we have a world class winemaker. Brian Carter’s name is synonymous with Washington wine. With too many awards, accolades, and accomplishments to list here, Brian is the master at creating remarkable, balanced, and beautiful wines. Known mainly for his blends, we approached Brian in 2017 with a unique opportunity to not only focus on single varietal wines, but make world class Pinot Noir from Washington fruit. With Brian at the helm and our fruit coming from these legendary vineyards, we may be a new winery, but we have decades of history on our side.
